Knowing a couple relaxation techniques can save your life, because stress is more than just unpleasant it’s also dangerous to your health. Disciplined practices such as palates can help relieve that stress, but what if you don’t have the time? Maybe you need to try a few of these simple ways to relax.

1. Give someone a big, gentle hug. Hugging usually includes getting a hug back..and there is nothing more calming than being in someone else’s arms.

2. Do it differently. Go talk to someoneyou usually don’t i.e. a member of the janitorial staff, or eat lunch on the balcony. Just doing anything that breaks the monotony of your normal behavior can relieve stress.

3. Give yourself a long warm bath. It relaxes your muscles, and gives you a break from those more stressful activities. Some find that an alternating hot and cold shower is even more relaxing.

4. Try paying close attention to your thoughts. Spot those ‘nasties’ that lurk just below the surface (hunger, worry, a phone call you need to make) and you can resolve them and feel more relieved. If you practice this awareness exercise, it may become one of your favorite stress relieving techniques.

5. Try laughing. A great way for me to laugh is to stand in front of a mirror, stark naked! That always gives me a good laugh; especially first thing in the morning. Just be sure it is a good ‘belly laugh’, one that makes your sides hurt and you become short of breath. Not only will it relax you but it burns calories too!

6. Relax to music. Keep your favorites at the office, in the car, or wherever you’ll need it most. Music can settle that pile of nerve endings that is inside of all of us. Choose the tunes that bring up happy memories and use those to help you.

7. Leave the room for a while. This can help if the things in the room or related to it are causing your stressful thoughts. Why not leave for a little while? Just remember to not slam the door after you!

8. Breath deeply. Try five deep breaths through your nose. Close your eyes and pay attention only to your breathing while doing this. It’s like a mini-meditation, and perhaps the most effective of the quick relaxation techniques.

9. Drink something decaffeinated. Caffeine is a stimulant and promotes a rapid heartbeat and increased mental stimulation. This can bring on feelings of stress and anxiety.

10. Leave the house. If you have at least ten minutes to spare, going for a walk is one of the best calming techniques. While you’re at it, admire the view or go and talk to that person in technique 2.

11. Remove your shoes. Remember that scene in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere took his shoes and socks off. That reconnection with Nature has a remarkable effect.

We are not always able to escape our environment when we feel stressed. For some, taking a simple walk to clear the head is something that has to be put off. What we all can do, though, is take a few minutes to sit in our chair and use imagery to melt away our stress.

Imagery makes good use of our imagination. From the imagination we can draw upon any number of experiences. We can recall a time and a place where we were at peace, where our surroundings were blissful and beautiful to the eye. We can recreate from memory to bring ourselves out of a stressful situation and into an intensely relaxing situation.

Bring all your senses into this imagery by recalling sounds of cool, running water, the song of birds, the smell of fresh cut grass, the heat of the sun, etc. Imagine that you are at a place free from stress and pressure.

Concentrate on developing your five senses. Savor the pictures of serenity. Smell the freshness of nature. Feel the warmth and comfort of the sun and the air. Each image will be different to each person. Really focus on what you can see, taste, touch, smell and feel.

Now imagine that all of your stress, all of your worries and all of your concerns are being zapped from your body. Feel each stress point release as if into thin air. As you feel the stress drain from your body return back to your picture of imagery. Relax there and deep breathe.

Imagery substitutes your actual experience with something much more ideal. It allows you a renewed sense of self-confidence to take on the stress of your life. During imagery, your body is relaxed and recharged. Your stress levels lessen and adrenaline disperses. It gives your mind and body a break over the stress having control and you have complete mastery over the mind and body for that time. Imagery is a great life balancer!

Maybe you are like me and you are fed up of hearing everyone give you advice about time. They just go on and on. Like, hope you can find some time. On the other hand, do not forget to make yourself some time. How about, do not lose any time. Alternatively, do not waste time. In addition, my all time favorite is, be sure to use time wisely. If I hear just one more I am sure, I will lose it!

Now, they may all be sound advice but what I really want to hear just once is, how about some playtime. That kind of time I do deserve.

You and I can actually achieve far more if we just learn to devote time for ourselves. Doing this, though, is not always so easy.

We should all work very hard and when we do, we are bound to struggle through the pressures of life. It just makes sense. You are likely among those who are often found trying to get ahead and meet the demands of your job or family, right? Yet, if we do not stop and give ourselves the attention we need, we will all end up suffering to one degree or another.

Keep in mind that there is no one right way to manage this. Everyone has variable circumstances. We all have some unique problems in doing or achieving this aim. Perhaps the first thing to realize is that you are not managing time to do this. You are managing yourself.

A well-managed individual is well organized.

In order to manage yourself, establish your priorities. I am not talking about those “most important” things to do. It is prioritizing those things that are most important to you at a personal level. In focusing less on the tangible and more on the fulfillment of things you value, you will then achieve a sense of balance. You just need to determine what those activities are.

Take a look at what your leisure desires are. Travel? Reading? Bowling? Dancing? Dining out more? Visiting with family and friends? Deciding what you want to do is the first step to finding the time to do it.

Your priorities can therefore encompass: Friends and family relations, personal enrichment, health and wellness, pursuing personal passions, and working toward long-range goals. Life is more fulfilling when you are doing those things because they bring you joy. You do not need to sacrifice career, family, and well being to achieve balance in your life. You do not even need to change jobs either. Just change yourself. That should be priority number one.

You can create your own brand in lifestyle. It is not something created for you, I know you might think that others control your life, and that you are not in control, but that just is not true. You have many different choices.

Part of the choices that you will make has to do with doing those things that align with your purpose or spirit. You can opt to take any task and turn it into a purposeful one, giving it importance and meaning. If you do it any other way, it is just a chore. The way you view your activities has a great deal of impact on how you approach them.

Stress is a part of our everyday lives. We experience stress during work, at school, through a personal crises or when we go through a very important event in our personal lives.

While a little amount of stress can keep us alert and on our feet, too much of it is also bad. People who have a high rate of stress are prone to many diseases, including heart failure. Stressed people should therefore employ techniques in managing stress. Managing stress need not to be difficult and expensive. Here are some easy ways on how to cope up stress.

Talking to someone close to you is an excellent way in managing stress. You can talk to your friends, a clergy, your family or a lover about your concern and stresses. You can ask them for their support. Talking is a good outlet and can relieve you of stress. Most often, people close to you can comfort you, which reduces stress significantly.

Living a healthy lifestyle is an excellent preventive way of managing stress. When you are healthy and fit, your body can cope up with stress much better. You will also be able to resist most stress related diseases.

That means, you should not smoke, drink too much alcohol, overeat, take drugs or indulge in too much caffeine. While many people think that these substances can make life easier, they actually make things worse.

Exercise regularly. Just like the eating right and refraining from vices, exercise is a good way to manage stress and keeps the body healthy. Exercise should not be viewed as something that is strenuous but should be done. In fact, you can do something that you enjoy. In today’s hectic world of fast paced living and competitive work arena, it’s no longer a wonder that a lot of people suffer from the negative effects of depression, anxiety, and stress. Overstress will take its toll on the body, both physically and mentally, and so it is essential that one takes action to manage overstress.

Depression, anxiety, and stress management is an important step to reducing or eradicating the negative effects that these three factors can give the body. There are various options for depression, anxiety, and stress management, and its effectiveness will depend on what works best for the individual’s need. Generally, the aim of depression, anxiety, and stress management, is to lessen the pressure load, help the individual to cope with their depression, anxiety, and stress, at the same time as helping the person get back to being “healthy” again.

Some helpful tips for reducing one’s pressure load includes: lessening the “pace of change” in one’s life; reducing school or work obligations; diminishing social obligations; saying “no” more often; reducing environmental toxins; postponing changes in one’s living situation; and eliminating possible environmental or food allergens. Origin: Who you are

A map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, ìHi, Iím Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student.î It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you her present preoccupation. To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status. Moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, get organized, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient. Her inclination was in the biological-medical field. Destination: A vision of who you want to be

ìWho do want to be?î this is your vision. Now it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer idea of who you want to be; and the things you want to change whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view. If you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. Your destination should cover all the aspects of your being: the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Bases on Jeanís self-assessment, she decided that she was suited to become a doctor, and that she wanted to become one. Her chosen vocation was a medical doctor. Describing her vision-mission fully: it was to live a life dedicated to serving her fellowmen as a doctor in conflict-areas.

Travel Bag: Your knowledge, skills, and attitude

Food, drinks, medicines, and other travelling necessities are contained in a bag. Applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision. Given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way. This two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success. Jean realized that she needed to gain professional knowledge and skills on medicine so that she could become a doctor. She knew that she was a bit impatient with people so she realized that this was something she wanted to change.

Landmarks and Route: S.M.A.R.T. objectives

Landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines the travel time. Thus, in planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. These landmarks are your measures of success. These measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound. Thus you cannot set two major landmarks such as earning a masterís degree and a doctorate degree within a period of three years, since the minimum number of years to complete a masterís degree is two years. Going back to Jean as an example, she identified the following landmarks in her life map about time management: completing a bachelor’s degree in biology by the age of 21; completing medicine by the age of 27; earning her specialization in infectious diseases by the age of 30; getting deployed in local public hospitals of their town by the age of 32; and serving as doctor in war-torn areas by the age of 35.
