What Is Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is a disease of the brain and not a mental illness. It is a medical condition which as such, responds to medication and non-medicated approaches to relieving the symptoms and even stalling the progression of Alzheimers.
Alzheimer’s disease disease can act differently in different patients. Some experience a slow progression of the disease and others may watch as their loved ones goes rapidly through the stages of the disease, seemingly changing right before their eyes.
The same treatments for Alzheimer’s disease may not always have the same result or work for the same amount of time for different people.
It doesn’t make sense to argue with or try to reason with someone suffering from Alzheimer’s because in order for the individual with Alzheimer’s to argue or reason back they would have to be able to understand, remember and process what is being said and this is just not possible.
To make life easier for the patient in the early or middle stages of the disease break up tasks into smaller steps so that the entire task will not seem quite as overwhelming to them.
We all tend to “temporarily” forget things from time to time. When these “senior moments” change from being only a nuisance to perhaps something more serious is when they start to interfere in your daily life. If this happens then those moments may be something more serious such as a manifestation of Alzheimer’s symptoms.
Be Careful With Weight Loss Pills

Over-the-counter weight-loss pills are no quick fix to melt away extra pounds. Many local drugstores sell diet pills, and even more choices are available on the Internet. But most diet pills haven’t been proved safe or effective, and some are downright dangerous, according to a special report in the November issue of Mayo Clinic Women’s HealthSource.
Weight loss drugs have been something of a flop. Between Acomplia being ordered off the shelves for making people mad, and the lackluster performance of the other popular weight loss drugs – there hasn’t been much to celebrate for the pharmaceutical companies.
Now there is an experimental drug called tesofensine, said to produce double the weight loss of current diet drugs. The drug works on three different appetite regulatory centers of the brain – the neurotransmitters noradrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin.
The phase II study, reported in The Lancet, included 203 obese patients whose average weight was about 220 pounds. The average weight loss was 28 pounds in the highest dose of tesofensine compared to the placebo group which lost an average of 5 pounds.
A significant number of NFL players have tested positive under the league’s steroid policy because of their use of weight-loss pills containing a substance banned by the league, sources familiar with the cases said yesterday.
A Denver television station, KDVR-TV, reported six to 10 players tested positive, including tailback Deuce McAllister and defensive end Will Smith of the New Orleans Saints. One to two other Saints players also tested positive, according to the report, which cited an NFL source.
Most of the players, including McAllister and Smith, tested positive for bumetanide, described as a drug used to treat fluid retention. The diuretic reportedly also can be used as a steroid-masking agent and is on the NFL’s list of banned substances. According to the report, bumetanide belongs to a group of medicines called loop diuretics, or water pills.
Sources familiar with the case confirmed the report. The players are subject to possible suspensions, pending appeals.
Acai — Super Juice Or Super Food?

Some claim it as “purple gold,†health food stores stock it on their shelves, and it started in the Brazilian Amazon. Oprah Winfrey featured it on her show and health specialists endorse it. The acai fruit finds its way into a number of juices, smoothies, and nutrition bars which means it is catching on in the U.S. The real question is, Is acai worth all the hype.
According to old Amazonian tribes, the acai berry cures a number of ailments, provides energy, and increases the libido Recent scientific studies agree, indicating that the acai berry is one of the most nutritional foods in the world Grown in the Amazon, the Açaà starts as the fruit of palm trees in Brazilian rainforests The berry, which features a subtle chocolate taste, is filled with antioxidants, amino and fatty acids, and is a natural energy source Researchers find that this combination creates a “superfood†that helps prevent high cholesterol, heart disease, and cancer Because the acai fruit destroys some cancer cells in the body, it is a leading ingredient in many alternative medicine diets.
The acai fruit is new to supermarket shelves in the U.S., although it’s a daily staple in the Amazonian diet. Sambazon, a company that began to feature acai in its products after its co-founders discovered the acai fruit on a surfing trip, is credited for bringing the phenomenon to the U.S.
The acai fruit is featured mostly as a main ingredient in other food products like protein bars and juice because it spoils too quicly to be distributed in its natural form. A higher concentration of antioxidants is found in pulp form rather than acai juice products and is now showing up in some health food stores as an unsweetened pulp form.
Acai offers is appealing to a society focusing more and more on sustainable development Thousands of harvesters can harvest the acai fruit without destroying the Amazon rainforests. New concerns arise, however, as the popularity of Acai juice products increases, requiring more of the acai fruit to be harvested.
As these products are distributed in food chains like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, the acai fruit’s popularity will only increase. Americans can now embrace the acai fruit now that researchers have provided evidence that it is worth the hype.

When people want to lose weight, they always think about what foods they should avoid like high calorie, high fat, sugary foods that can quickly add inches to their growing waistlines. However, when people try to lose weight by avoiding their favorite foods, they always end up feeling deprived, hungry and unsatisfied. These emotions lead them to crave for food more and this results in food binges. That is why knowing the right foods to eat is just as important.
Eating a variety of foods from the different food groups will help you get the good nutrients that you will need to burn the fat and lose weight. Research shows that people get full depending on the amount of food they eat so to create a caloric deficit without eating less you will need to replace your “usual” food with lower calories.
Foods To Eat To Help In fat loss
1. Take in foods that have a lower fat content such as lean meat, fish , chicken or turkey breast without skin, grilled salmon, ground lean beef instead of hot dogs and luncheon meats. You need essential fat because this actually helps in the fat burning process of our body. Drink low fat products like skim or low-fat milk instead of whole milk.
2. Eat foods that are made of whole grains and high on fiber like whole wheat bread, brown rice, fruits and vegetables. Most fruits and vegetable are of low-calorie foods and they can surely fill you up just be careful on how you prepare them. Just keep it simple, steam your vegetables and spice them up a little. You need those low carbohydrate substitutes as a source of energy.
3. Eating high protein foods can do a lot of good for your muscle building and keeping your bones strong. Just be sure to take off the skin from chicken and turkey. Eat a lot of white kidney beans or peas.
4. When it comes to beverages be careful with energy drinks because they are the easiest way to get calories but they won’t fill you up like real food does. Don’t forget to drink at least twelve 8 oz glasses of water every day.
A modest weight loss of 5-10% will reduce your risk of developing diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. A balanced calorie intake while maintaining adequate nutrient is of prime importance to achieve good health.
Is Lucid Dreaming Right For You?

We spend one third of our lives asleep, but what if that time was put to good use? This is the promise of lucid dreaming, or consciously being aware of the dream state. When you are lucid dreaming, there are opportunities to explore not only the dream, but also your foundations of reality.
Once thought to be the territory of only mystics and yogis, now we know that lucid dreaming can be learned by almost anyone. The most important factor is for potential lucid dreamers to have a strong intention to learn, or they will be disappointed. Having said this, here are some things to consider if conscious dreaming is right for you.
One of the most important factors for learning conscious dreaming is having good dream recall. After all, how can you become aware you are dreaming if you don’t even remember your dreams in the first place? Luckily, remembering dreams is also a learnable skill for most people; all it takes is some patience, and a journal beside the bed to capture dream fragments after waking up. This is the first connection of many between the waking world and the dreaming world that needs to be made in order to succeed at lucid dreaming.
Next, it is a fact that most excellent lucid dreamers have a better-than-average sense of balance. Vestibular activity plays a big role in consciousness, whether we are dreaming or awake. Therefore, beginners will have better luck learning to lucid dream if they also have an ongoing exercise practice that develops their balance. Some examples are yoga, tai chi, gymnastics, and the martial arts.
Lastly, the beginners who will have the greatest success are those who also are working on becoming more conscious in their daily lives. There are lots of ways to build brain power during the day, such as gardening, having a meditation practice, playing competitive sports, and board games like Scrabble or Risk. Lucid dreaming isn’t for everyone, but if you can remember your dreams, develop your body’s balance, and keep a mind-development regime, you will easily find success in becoming aware during the dream state.

Over ten years ago Carroll Krieff became the Pilates trainer to the stars when she opened her very own full-service Pilates studio in Malibu. It was the first of its kind in Malibu. Carroll had always been naturally athletic, but early on she found that by doing Pilates, her body became more lithe and dancer-like, rather than large and overly muscular like that of a body builder.
After graduating from the Performing Arts Physical Therapy Studio in Los Angeles, she opened her studio which was instantly a winner. She produced the Malibu Pilates Chair to achieve quick results in a short amount of time. This was especially a hit with celebrities who required to get toned quickly for particular roles. Carroll does her best to make workouts fun. She does not want her clients to feel like they are working. People tend to trust her because of her easy-going, warm personality.
But many at-home practitioners have discovered that no matter how many DVDs they use or classes they take, they just arent getting the outcomes they see in magazines. Superstars of stage and screen dont do Pilates the way it is learned in the gym setting they have personal trainers who offer expensive Pilates machines that add resistance and extra stretch to promote fast, powerful results. These medieval-looking machines can cost thousands of dollars and can take up the space of a small bedroom.
The true powerhouse of the Malibu Pilates Chair is the split-step pedals, used to support and strengthen the arms and legs, while holding your body in perfect position for each core-tightening exercise. This resolves one of the greatest problems home-practitioners face on a mat and without a coach, its just too easy to fall out of alignment and lose the benefits of a particular move. The chair acts like an in-home coach driving you into perfect alignment for perfect results, every time.
And what are those results? According to online reviews, they’re exactly what Krieff promises quick, impressive weight loss (some reviewers report losing up to 40 pounds), a reshaped body (4-8 inches off the waist), and a powerful core that supports the body no matter what you put it through each day.
The Malibu Pilates Chair has the following benefits:
- Whole body exercise
- Front pedal will split to vary workout
- Very well made and therefore safe to use
- DVDs included showing you how to get the best from the chair
- Easily put away
So what are you waiting for check out the Pilates Chair today.
Zyban Quit Smoking Pills – Will It Help You?

Americans are a pill popping people. If you have a headache – take a pill. If you have a back ache take another pill. When it comes to Zyban quit smoking you can probably guess that it comes in a pill form also. Taking pills are easier than many other routes of administering drugs. There are some people that have conditions whereby they cannot swallow. Sure they swallow a nice juicy piece of steak any day of the week. But when it comes to pills, they cannot swallow them.
For several years now the FDA has approved Zyban for use as a stop smoking pill. This really has taken the industry by storm and laid the foundation for other more advanced stop smoking aids. Both the American Medical Association and the Osteopathic Medical Association doctors have used Zyban successfully for years.
Just because you take this pill does not mean you’ll simply stop smoking. Quitting smoking takes tons of effort and various interventions are essential if you want to be successful with it.
The chemical name for Zyban is Bupropion. It is used and marketed under a few names in the United States. Wellbutrin which is an antidepressant. And Zyban – the stop smoking pill.
Now quitting smoking should take on added emphasis in your overall health plan. I believe that anyone regardless of how much they have smoked through the years, can quit smoking for good. But its a lot easier if you know how. Do you know how to quit smoking? Learning how is not intense or difficult but you have to be open to learning how to quit before you actually quit. When people try to quit without the right tools and fail, it is so easy to just give up. But I am here to tell you not to give up on your dream of being smoke free.
If you smoke and want to quit and your doctor prescribes Zyban this does not mean that you have other mental problems that he or she is trying to address. Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, sexual dysfunction, insomnia are all proper uses for this class of drug.

Discover Weight Loss Through Hypnosis
For many people hypnosis conjures up the image of a man of stage making someone do something completely foolish but weight loss through hypnosis seems even sillier.
But there is solid evidence that a person can achieve quick and lasting weight loss results by using hypnosis. Let’s look at what hypnosis is.
According to Contemporary Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing hypnosis or as it is more commonly known hypnotherapy is “the therapeutic use of suggestion when a person is in an altered state of consciousness in order to effect positive changes in that person’s behavior and so treat a range of health conditionsâ€. It has not only been used to decrease the pain a person is feeling but also for weight control.
In a publication (Warren 2003) there was a statement that “Hypnosis is a way to access the untapped power of the mind and alter brain functions. In this state of intense relaxation and concentration the mind is able to focus on positive suggestions which can be carried out at a future time. These subliminal messages are surprisingly powerful.â€
Then at the 54th Annual Conference in November 2003 of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, Dr David Spiegel (Stanford University researcher) said “that although we don’t fully understand how it works, there is significant evidence that hypnosis can be effective in helping people reach into their own unconscious resources to solve problems normally beyond their abilityâ€.
This in fact shows that the scientific community believes that indeed it is possible for someone to achieve weight loss through hypnosis.
In the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology 1996 a report regarding meta-analysis (comparing multiple studies) showed that adding hypnosis increased weight loss by an average of 97% when people were being treated. But even more important this increased the effectiveness of post treatment by over 146%. So this has shown that hypnosis can work even better if used over longer periods of time.
Whilst in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology 1986 a study was carried out on 60 women and they were separated into hypnosis versus non-hypnosis groups. It was found that those women using hypnosis lost an average of 17lbs whilst those in the non-hypnosis group only lost an average 5lbs.
So as you can see weight loss through hypnosis is very effective and maybe more people should look at trying it in the future.Â
Weight Loss Hypnosis Program – Change Bad Habits Into Good Habits
Today, more and more people have begun to eat poorly and are not exercising enough; leading to out of shape bodies and overweight frames. Once ingrained in you, these bad habits become hard to break free from. How well a weight loss hypnosis programs work for you depends on your own will power and your ability to make a conscious effort to succeed, as many people have also tried out different weight loss hypnosis programs with varying degrees of success.
Tap The Subconscious Mind
An interesting fact that is well known to most people is that humans only use between ten and twelve percent of their brain power with the remaining eighty-eight to ninety percent being used by the mind – subconsciously. It is easy to figure out that in order to achieve things in life you will have to tap your subconscious a bit more. If you want to change things in life, you need to act subconsciously and this holds true even when using this type of hypnosis program.
It is believed that if you try out a weight loss hypnosis program you will get to use up all of the power of the mind – and it holds good even if you are not trying to lose weight – you can use your mind in this way to attain any kind of personal goal.
By allowing you to speak to your own subconscious mind and suggest that it stop doing and/or cancel unhelpful actions is the way a hypnosis programs work. Once you are able to suggest to your subconscious that certain actions are not desirable and should be desisted, the brain will act in a way so that your negative actions begin to fade and disappear and these are then replaced by positive actions such as remembering to eat healthy foods and doing regular exercises.
Another positive to trying weight loss hypnosis program is that you will be able to use that eighty-eight to ninety percent of your subconscious mind which otherwise would have been lying dormant and unused. Chances are very bright that you will be able to stay off overeating for good, once you see results from your hypnosis program, these will become permanent.
A good solution to being overweight is weight loss through hypnosis. You need to only ensure that you use only those weight loss hypnosis programs that have been created by legitimate and genuine hypnotherapists and especially those that have been recognized by the American Medical Association.
Pycnogenol and Pine Bark for Improved Health

Pycnogenol is the name given to one of the chemical constituents of pine bark, but has also been trademarked by Horphag Research Ltd. This trademark refers only to pycnogenols extracted from the Maritime Pine, however, the extract from another pine bark, Pinus massonia Lamb, contains exactly the same compounds.
Pine Bark Extract has a high content of compounds known as OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins). OPCs has been declared a potent antioxidant, is non-toxic, non-mutagenic, non-carcinogenic, and free of side effects. OPCs has an antioxidant power 20 times stronger than Vitamin C and 50 times stronger than Vitamin E and has the ability to neutralize free radicals.
Cardiovascular Diseases
OPCs helps strengthen capillaries, arteries and veins, and has the ability to stabilize the walls of blood vessels, reduce inflammation, and generally support tissues containing collagen and elastin.
Atherosclerosis
It has been proved that the oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol) plays an important role in atherosclerosis. OPC eliminates damages that free radicals do to the arteries, thus preventing or reversing atherosclerosis.
Venous Insufficiency (Varicose Veins)
Varicose veins appear when blood pools in the legs, causing pain, heaviness, swelling, fatigue, and unsightly visible veins. By strengthening capillary walls and reducing capillary osmosis, OPCs can relieve the pain and swelling of venous insufficiency. Similarly, OPCs is recommended as a treatment for haemorrhoids. There is also some evidence that OPCs can be useful in reducing swelling that often follows injuries or surgery. OPCs appears to speed the disappearance of such swelling by strengthening damaged blood and lymph vessels that are leaking fluid.
A double-blind placebo-controlled study of 92 subjects found that OPCs, taken at a dose of 100mg 3 times daily, significantly improved major symptoms, including heaviness, swelling, and leg discomfort. Over a period of 1 month, 75% of the participants treated with OPCs improved substantially.
Retinopathy/Vision Improvement
The capacity of OPCs in strengthening capillaries and reducing capillary osmosis is effective for patients suffering from stroke and retinopathy. OPCs has been proved to improve retinopathy caused by diabetes, atherosclerosis, inflammation and ageing. It has also been reported that OPCs can improve the visual acuity of those who suffer from eye fatigue because of excessive computer use.
A six-week controlled (but not blinded) study evaluated the ability of OPCs to improve night vision in normal subjects. In this trial of 100 healthy volunteers, those who received 200mg per day of OPCs showed improvements in night vision and glare recovery as compared to untreated subjects.
Aging/Alzheimer Disease
Because OPCs can easily pass the Blood-Brain Barrier, it can effectively inhibit the damage that free radicals do to the brain, so that Alzheimer Disease may be prevented and reversed.
Skin Care
Because of its antioxidant activity, OPCs is thought to protect the skin from excessive ultraviolet radiation and free radicals. Considerable evidence indicates that OPCs protects and strengthens the collagen and elastin of the skin.
Anti-Cancer, Anti-Inflammation and Anti-Allergic Activity
Since free radicals play a vital role in tumour formation, OPCs is also used for its anti-cancer activity. OPCs is also helpful for all kinds of arthritis. The anti-allergic activity of OPCs is thought to be the result of its anti-histamine content. Compared with other anti-allergic drugs, OPCs has the same efficacy and does not have the side effects such as drowsiness.
Pine Bark extract is so effective that it has been approved as an additive for foods and beverages include baked goods, breakfast cereals, breakfast bars, processed fruits and vegetables, jams and jellies, soups, sweets, chewing gum, margarine, sauces, fats and oils, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
