Several Causes Of Depression

Filed Under Healthy Living | Leave a Comment
Medical professionals recognize the real mental problem of depression. It’s often a matter of years, or at least months, to control or cure it. Every year, millions of Americans feel the symptoms of depression. Only about a third of them will seek treatment, and that makes it worse.
Many Americans don’t want to be considered crazy, so because depression is considered a mental affliction they avoid diagnosis. They would rather deal with the problem on their own than risk being stereotyped should they seek assistance. Depression is more common- place than you might think and it will not go away on its own.
Causes of Depression
So, what causes depression? There are many factors to consider, so the answer isn’t simple. The list is quite long.
Lets examine some of the most notorious. Many medical professionals believe that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. This may be the case, but what causes that imbalance? Typically the causes stem from biological, genetic, physical, mental and environmental implications.
Doctors sometimes don’t find the root cause, which is true for many patients. Depression often follows diagnosis of other medical conditions, particularly those that result in imminent death or are chronic.
Another cause of depression can be the emotional pain felt after losing a loved one. In many cases the loss can be very traumatic. Depression often follows sexual or physical abuse, or emotional attacks. Substance abuse, either drug or alcohol, can also cause depression.
People’s mental states are fragile. If exposed to the wrong pressures, depression can result. Depression is often passed along in the DNA. People who have a strong background of depression in the family are at a high risk . There are even some prescribed medications that can bring on depression. It has been clinically proven that some high blood pressure medication can cause depression.
Depression can result from stress. Stress itself is a complex subject with many different causes. Even positive events such as a marriage, a new baby or winning an award can cause stress.
People tend to stress when they face the unknown, like a new job or new financial obligations. In addition, many are stressed from personal conflicts with their loved ones, associates in employment or friends. Just trying to make ends meet is stressful for some people. By determining the cause, medical professionals have a much better chance of administering a treatment. It’s important that those who suffer depression get medical help at once.

Acai juice comes from the Acai berry grown wild in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. The acai berries grow on palm trees and are deep purple with a small amount of pulp.
Typically with fruit juice people say the fruit is tastier than the juice. This is not so with acai. Acai berries contain a very small amount of pulp, and few people know that acai cannot be consumed until the juice is extracted from the pulp. Most people say that acai juice tastes like a berry and chocolate combined.
With its incredible nutritional value, this juice has been said to be an entire meal in itself. Acai Juice is full of fatty acids, and a lot of vitamins and minerals which your body craves. During the picking season, the acai berries soak in water so they can become soft, making it easy for the seed to be removed. The acai juice is then finalized by adding water and oil to the fruit pulp. Traditionally, the Brazilian natives would crush the berries to extract the juice.
Acai juice is known for its health benefits among the Brazilian natives and this knowledge is quickly spreading across the globe. It has been said that Acai juice may help with arthritis, inflammation in the muscles and joints, body pain, the aging of our skin and even sleep issues.
The health benefits of acai juice are plentiful. The acai berry and acai juice are very good for the economy of Brazil as there are over 60 factories located in the country which produce acai products. To protect the Amazon Rainforests delicate balance, the harvesting of the Acai berry is still done by hand as it has been for years. To avoid damage, acai berries are usually processed within 24 hours. In order to process the berries within 24 hours, acai harvesters will pick the berries and rush them to the factory.
Acai Juice is definitely on the rise partly thanks to the many recognized benefits of the product. Acai juice is perfect for daily use and is an excellent addition to any diet.

Zero Nicotine is an herbal supplement designed to eliminate your nicotine cravings and reduce the withdrawal symptoms as you quit smoking. The Zero Nicotine patch, as the name denotes, does not contain any nicotine at all. What it does contain are herbs that imitate the effects of nicotine within the body, but that are not addictive themselves. Other ingredients are designed to help eliminate any remaining nicotine from your system. The manufacturer claims that this has been shown to help a smoker overcome their addiction to nicotine faster than using a nicotine patch or simply going cold turkey.
The proprietary herbal formulation in Zero Nicotine Patch contains ingredients that act as natural substitutes for nicotine; thereby fulfilling the body’s craving for this substance, without all the negative side effects of patches containing the actual drug, nicotine. The all-natural ingredients will make you crave less cigarettes each day. This gradual process allows you to quit with no withdrawal symptoms and needs less willpower and effort on your part.
Zero Nicotine is safe and easy to use. Each patch contains a dose of the most efficient herbal ingredients, formulated to alleviate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal while cleansing the system of all smoking-related toxins. To break free from smoking, you require to break free from nicotine. Unlike other quit smoking patches, Zero Nicotine’s all-natural formula eliminates , rather than replenishes, the level of nicotine in your body, helping you break the habit. Used in conjunction with our proven cessation program, Zero Nicotine can help you be free of tobacco in thirty days or less.
After analyzing many applicable studies and products currently sold on the market, the revolutionary formula, Zero Nicotine Patch, guarantees smoking cessation in a very short period. Withdrawal symptoms will be milder due to the all-natural nicotine substitute, which helps you shake the nicotine habit gradually , with less physical and emotional stress. When a smoker stops putting nicotine into their system, both the brain and body react to this absence by creating withdrawal symptoms, which are also known as cravings. These cravings are often so strong that it is estimated that only one person in 20 can quit smoking on their own.
The patch application method allows the active ingredients to penetrate the skin and reach the bloodstream faster and more conveniently than any other method. Other methods, such as pills or lozenges, must be taken several times per day, since they lose many of their active ingredients as they are processed by stomach acid, minimizing their effectiveness. The revolutionary patch system eliminates the need to remember to take pills. Simply apply a new Zero Nicotine Patch every three days. It is very easy .
How much Protein do we Really Need?

From the days of grade school, we saw those wonderful colored charts showing us the importance of eating our meat and drinking our milk so that we would get lots of protein.
The Meat, Dairy and Egg Push
Now, as adults, we know that the concept of the “basic four” food groups is heavily promoted by the National Dairy Council, the National Egg Board and the National Livestock and Meat Board. In fact, the largest supplier of “nutritional education” materials for our U.S. schools is the National Dairy Council. But do we really need all of the protein that their agenda pushes?
Does Anyone Know?
According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, history has shown that many populations have lived in excellent health with 2.5% of their daily calories coming from protein. The World Health Organization says it should be 4.5%. The Food and Nutrition Board says 6% while the National Research Council claims it should be as high as 8%. Then we have the National Academy of Sciences which recommends 10 to 35% of our daily calories should come from protein. Hmmm, is the picture getting muddy? Why do the numbers keep get higher?
Human milk is 5% protein, so that could be nature’s view point on the issue. During the first year of life, babies grow faster than any other time and their protein needs are the highest. For centuries before modern times and man-made formulas, babies grew solely on their mother’s milk during their first years. Has anyone thought about making that the guide?
Standard Most Used
The common standard shown on charts these days put it at 8 to 9%. How does this compute? The simplest method is to just take your weight and multiply it by .37 and that’s the number of grams of protein to eat each day. An even more important issue here may be where you choose to get those grams of protein.
A quick comparison using 100 grams each:
•Beef: 24 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 90 mg Cholesterol
•Chicken: 30 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 84 mg Cholesterol
•Egg: 13.5 g Protein, 15 g Fat, 459 mg Cholesterol
•Lamb: 28 g Protein, 7.7 g Fat, 89 mg Cholesterol
•Milk-Cow: 3.3 g Protein, 3.6 g Fat, 14.3 mg Cholesterol
•Milk-Goat: 3.5 g Protein, 4.1 g Fat, 11.4 mg Cholesterol
•Soymilk: 2.7 g Protein, 1.9 g Fat, 0 mg Cholesterol
•Tofu: 8 g Protein, 4.5 g Fat, 0 mg Cholesterol
Don’t be fooled that since you’re getting more protein from an equal amount of beef than tofu that beef is the better deal. Anywhere from 50 to 80% of the calories in beef are fat. And then there is the cholesterol issue. Tofu is a low calorie food with less than 5% fat and no cholesterol.
Remember, all legumes, grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds contain protein. It’s not difficult to reach the daily requirements. And you can do it with using high fat, high cholesterol foods.
Does The Stop Smoking Injection Really Work?
Posted on November 24, 2008
Filed Under Smoking | Leave a Comment
Many medical problems come upon us, resulting in some degree of limitations in our lifestyles, and then some ailments occur which aren’t as severe but are disruptive nonetheless. Then there are self-induced troubles, such as a smoking addiction.
You may have seen ads for a “Stop Smoking Shot,” but is it a miracle or just another scam designed to part you from your money? Maybe you’ve tried acupuncture, the patch, nicotine gum, fake cigarettes, hypnotism and every other trick in the book, but are you ready for this?
To find out if the smoking cessation shot is for you, read on.
The smoking shot isn’t an injection of nicotine to help you get over your addiction. Unlike the patch or nicotine gum, it attempts to relive withdrawal symptoms by injecting you with, essentially, antidepressants that give your brain the same “high” as nicotine.
For some people, this placebo effect works and for others the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal are too strong to quit. For the smoking injection to work, a quitter needs to be committed and willing to combine the treatment with other smoking cessation strategies like limiting habit triggers and reducing stress.
Unfortunately, the stop smoking shot hasn’t been around long enough to be subject to any long-term studies. And while most providers of the shot claim it has an 80% effective rate, those figures aren’t based on long-term research. It’s unclear how effective the shot is over a long period of time like 1 to 10 years.
Once your injections are complete, you need to continue wearing a patch behind your ear and taking complimentary drugs for two additional weeks. At that point, you and your doctor will decide if additional treatment is needed.
The drugs used in most smoking injections are not intended as smoking cessation aids, nor are they approved for it. However, doctors are allowed to administer them as part of a stop smoking program.
For a smoking cessation injection and two-week treatment course, you should expect to pay between $300 and $600, depending on the clinic. Many health insurance companies will cover these costs as part of their stop-smoking strategies.
Common side effects of the stop smoking shot include dizziness, dry mouth, confusion, blurred vision and trouble urinating. However, these side effects are typically temporary and tend to disappear. If you’re pregnant or suffer from a heart condition, this treatment isn’t for you.
Better Fitness With An Elliptical Trainer Machine

Since they were first introduced to the market a number of years ago, elliptical fitness trainers have enjoyed an increasing degree of popularity with each passing year. A primary reason for this is that elliptical machines let people get an effective cardio workout but it does not stress their joints, like so many other exercise machines can.
In fact, the joints are strengthened by working out on an elliptical, making it a good purchase for people who want a safe, but effective, cardio workout.
There are a number of different variations that can be found in elliptical trainers, and it can be somewhat confusing because of all the choices in models and options available. Elliptical machines range in price from around $200 for a refurbished magnetic resistance elliptical, up to over $5000 for the best elliptical machine on the market.
Your choice in an elliptical equipment exercise machine will be determined by your fitness needs and goals, and by your budget. But, before you decide, there are some important factors you should consider before making a purchase of an elliptical fitness trainer.
In most cases, the first thing that people consider when purchasing elliptical equipment exercise fitness equipment is the price tag. It should come as no surprise that when getting an elliptical gym trainer, it is best to spend as much as your budget will allow.
Some people who only have a few hundred dollars to invest in their fitness equipment worry if it is really worth it for them to buy cheap exercise equipment.
The answer has a lot to do with your expectations. You can find a decent elliptical trainer at some of the national discount chains for $300 to $400. While these machines in this price range will give you a workout, they may not last for very long and they will not have the advanced options of the more expensive elliptical machines.
For some people, it might be a good idea to buy whatever you can afford, knowing that you will probably have to upgrade within a year or two. This, of course, will depend on your circumstances and how important it is that you get started on your fitness program.
If you want to purchase a quality elliptical machine, then you might need to save up in order to afford a top-of-the-line product. ProForm ellipticals, Sole elliptical machines, Nordic Track elliptical trainers, and Procor fitness equipment are some of the brands that are known for their quality and dependability. They also tend to carry the higher price tags, but users of the best training elliptical brands say they are worth every penny.
Many times you can get the best of both worlds by shopping for used equipment. Exercise equipment that is well-built and manufactured by a company with a good reputation for quality and dependability will often last for many, many years.
For various reasons, people sell their fitness equipment when it is in excellent condition and this is a great way to save money and still be able to enjoy a quality elliptical trainer. Another option is to watch for ads for refurbished elliptical machines. In most instances, such exercise equipment has been refurbished by the original factory and carries a limited warranty.
Before making a final decision on an elliptical gym trainer, visit the local fitness retailers in your area. Get on the machines and try them out. It is best to go wearing your workout wear and you should plan to use each model of elliptical machines on display for at least 10 minutes to get a good feel for them. This should give you the information you need to make an informed and confident decision.
Why You Should Change Your Brush Heads Every 3 Months
Posted on November 23, 2008
Filed Under Health Products | Leave a Comment
Many people often don’t think to replace their toothbrush on a regular basis even though it is important to do it regularly. If you have an electric toothbrush like those made by Oral B and Philips Sonicare then it is just as important if not more so. These sort of Oral B and Sonicare electric toothbrushes are usually more powerful and failure to change their brush heads can have major consequences. The main benefit of having an electric toothbrush lies in the effectiveness of the oscillating brush head. Electric toothbrushes may use different combinations of vibrations, sonic technologies, and rotary-oscillating movements in order to penetrate deep into the pores of each tooth for effective cleaning. By using an electric toothbrush effectively, you can decrease plaque, decrease gingivitis, make your teeth whiter, and neutralise bacteria more effectively than with a normal toothbrush.
In order for electric toothbrushes to remain effective, the brush heads should be changed at a minimum of every three months. A lot of new electric toothbrushes come with digital reminders that alert you when it is time to replace the brush head. Other electric toothbrushes have colour indicator bristles that fade in colour when it is time to get a new brush head.
Stop Bacteria From Growing On Your Brush
Brush heads can become breeding grounds for bacteria and not only bacteria from your mouth. Each time you use the toilet in your bathroom, bacteria come out flying into the atmosphere and many of them land on your toothbrush. You should change your toothbrush heads about every 3 months because the bacteria from your mouth and surroundings will live on your brush and grow. This is often why you keep getting colds in the winter because you need to change the Oral B Floss Action brush heads.
Reduce Unhealthy Pressure
If you brush your teeth regularly for 3 months, your toothbrush head will start to lose its structure and becomes less sturdy. This means that the brush will not same amount of resistance on your teeth and and because of this the consumer tends to push the electric toothbrush harder against their teeth. The problem with this is that applying too much force can cause damage to the gums and weakens the enamel on your teeth.
Keep The Bristles Rigid
Brush head bristles are meant to be rigid and they are often various lengths so that they can get to different areas of your mouth. A prime example of this is the Oral-B Sonic Complete DLX electric toothbrush because Oral-B Sonic heads have criss crossed bristles so they can clean difficult areas of your teeth. Failure to change your Oral-B Sonic heads will mean that different areas of your mouth won’t get cleaned properly.
When You Should Look Out For Social Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the emotions that is really covering up some other problems in your life. People who have mental health issues can often have a lot of scary thoughts that make no sense to them. For example, they may have some enormous feelings of stress that they don’t reveal to anyone else. I have a friend who was scared of strangers. She couldn’t hide her fear because in our neighborhood we had so many apartments with people coming and going all of the time. Everything she needed was within walking distance of her apartment. She was so afraid of going out that she would order her meals and groceries to be delivered so she wouldn’t have to leave the house. Finally, She went to see a therapist and it turned out her real anxiety was due to some suppressed mental health issues related to her family life. It seems odd at first glance, but anxiety often operates like a self-defense mechanism.
If you have unreasonable fear of something you might want to consider that your fear is covering up another problem. The fear works to distract your mind. It’s like displaced anxiety. Most of us can figure out what the real problems are in our lives if we just open up our minds to the truth. But you will have to make a commitment to deal with the honest truth.
Social anxiety can manifest itself as stress in a particular social situation. It can also impact all aspects of a life outside of the house. In some extreme cases, people might try to totally remove themselves from any and all stressful situations that have been known to trigger extreme feelings of fear.
If the social anxiety condition is properly diagnosed and treated, there is a very good chance a person can overcome the situation. In many situstions , a combination of medications and/or therapy will be prescribed to help a sufferer regain control over their life and social situations. Being a little apprehensive in public situations is not at all abnormal. If there is a family history of mental health issues , this can play a role in helping determine the right treatment for anxiety.
Since many of the symptoms of panic attacks also mimic life-threatening and serious physical conditions, it is almost always advised that a physician be the one to determine the root cause. Even if the triggers are “obvious” social anxiety, such as an extreme fear of strangers, being in public or going to job interviews, a physical evaluation is almost always called for.
With an estimated 40 million Americans living with the impacts of anxiety, the need for proper treatment is evident. Mental illness can create symptoms that make getting through everyday life difficult at best.
