Doing a few simple knee strengthening exercises can go a long way to making your knees stronger therefore enabling you to get fitter, quicker.
To begin with the first exercise is very useful for those who have a condition called chondromalacia patella. That’s a roughening of the cartilage underneath the knee cap, sometimes as the result of the bones not sitting properly in the ‘V’ of the knee joint.
A really simple exercise that will help is as follows:- Sit comfortably on a chair, try not to tense up, you need to relax, have your thigh parallel with the ground, leg bent at 90 degrees, feet on the ground, tense the thigh, then hold this position for five seconds and release the hold, do the same with the other leg. Complete ten reps on each leg.
Please make sure you breathe normally while doing these exercises.
Another exercise does a little more to build strength in the muscles that control bending at the knee.
Sit up straight and breathe normally, then cross your legs at the ankle. Push forward with the rear leg and back with the front leg. (A little tricky at first, but think about it!)
Change over by reversing the direction of the cross. If your left leg was in front, move it to the back and but your right leg in front. Do ten reps for each leg in each position.
How To Get Those Calves Working
Would you like to move onto to something a little more challenging?
For this next exercise avoid standing on a concrete or metal floor. If your balance is not to good you may be better to do the following exercise on a mat or carpet.
Stand upright, heels together, toes a little apart. Make sure to keep your balance.
Lift the heels, balancing on the balls of your feet. Imagine a string attached to the center of your head pulling you up. Hold for 5 seconds, then lower slowly. Repeat 10 times. Over time, as you build strength and balance, increase the length of time you’re on the balls of the feet.
To intensify this exercises a little try bending your knees whilst you have your heels raised. By doing this you will also be using the muscles in your quadriceps, hamstrings and buttocks. Remember to straighten your knees then lower your heels. Do ten reps.
I am sure you are aware of how important it is to have strong, healthy knees when carrying out any type of fitness routine. Doing these easy knee strengthening exercises regularly will really improve the state of your knees and help you increase your fitness levels even further.

Homemade Soymilk: Luxury Or Necessity

I don’t begin to understand what the money controllers in this country have done to us and how they brought about this market crash. All I know is that it’s going to make everything around us cost more. That includes food.
It was mostly a novelty for me when I first started making my own soymilk. I had been buying my soymilk in the grocery and didn’t even know for along time that I could make it myself. I mean, who makes milk? I don’t live on a dairy farm, so my only access to cow’s milk was the grocery store. So when I made the switch to soy, it didn’t even occur to me that this could turn into a do-it-yourself project.
Luxury Becomes a Need?
This new soy adventure was complete luxury for me. I was a step up from folks that were still buying this drink in stores because I had the ability to control what I put in my soymilk and how I wanted it to taste. Then I learned how to make tofu and soy yogurt. My luxury continued.
How quickly my regards for this food source have changed. My Soymilk Maker has become my most valued piece of kitchen equipment. It’s now a necessity!
The finacial burden of meat-based diets could soon grow beyond belief. What is the cost of a pound of meat? What will it become? How many meals can a pound of meat make? What’s the cost of a pound of soybeans? Right now, it averages 2 dollars. What will it become? It’ll be much less than meat.
Soy For Survival?
You can do a lot of things with a pound of soybeans. You can make 5 pots of soymilk. You could use one of those pots to make a block of tofu. One pot of soymilk can make seven servings of yogurt. Also from those 5 pots, you’ll get almost 4 cups of okara, which can easily become 20 soy burgers.
The upside to all of this; soybeans make healthy foods. It’s a perfect protein food. It’s high in fiber and loaded with minerals. This may not be the best time to invest in the stock market, but it’s a great time to invest in health and food. An additional note: dry soybeans have a long shelf life when stored in tightly sealed containers.
A Natural Ovarian Cyst Treatment

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled pouches which are similar to blisters. They are growths that form on the two almond sized organs on each side of the uterus, and are common among women when they’re fertile. Most types are harmless and go away without any treatment. Ovarian cysts are products of disordered ovulation.
A cyst can take shape when the follicle does not release its egg, and the follicle continues to grow forming a cyst wherein the egg is still trapped inside. An ovarian cyst can also be formed even if the follicle releases the egg. The hole where the egg is released closes up, the corpus luteum is not formed, and that’s also the reason why the swelling continues to grow. If you have ovarian cysts, you may be able find an ovarian cyst removal remedy you can do yourself without seeing a doctor.
According to many experts, it is now believed that xenoestrogens may also contribute to ovarian cysts. So, what are Xenoestrogens? They are a type chemical found in some kinds of plastic bags. According to an item in Newsweek, a 19-year-old girl found out that she had ovarian cysts and doctors found some traces of Xenoestrogens in her system and it lead them to a conclusion that it came from plastic bags that were used to wrap food that she brings everyday to school.
It’s true that some ovarian cysts are not risky and can go away without medical attention but be aware that some cysts require immediate treatment. So, what are the best remedies? While there are several treatments, women should understand some may be designed only to temporarily get rid of the symptom rather than get to the root cause of the problem. For this reason its best to seek your doctors opinion to determine if a self-help approach will work, or whether surgery may also be required.
Weight Loss – Truths And Myths

Few commercialized areas of science are so stuffed with fables as that centered around losing weight. Everybody would like a straightforward, safe, no-willpower solution. Sometime , we may get one. For the moment there are no magic cures. But there are a few legends that have to be looked at. The general public is oftened led astray when it comes to the best diet programs.
You will have read this one: eating ice cream essentially causes weight loss. The supposed concept is that since ice cream is cold, and it takes energy ( measured in calories ) to heat it up, your body is consuming energy while eating.
Your body does actually need energy to heat up ice cream, and even to digest it. Any action the body takes needs energy, that is basic physics applied to physiology. But the demon is in the details. Eating ice cream, customarily high in fat and sugar, takes in much more calories than are used to heat and digest it. Sorry, but you continue to need to go easy on the pudding.
Occasionally ice water is substituted in the parable. True it has no calories, so you are far better off. But the energy wanted to heat it to body temperature is immaterial regarding the weight loss effect. However, often you feel hungry when in reality the body is just a touch dehydrated. Drinking water can make you feel less hungry, and it is significantly lower in calories than regular soda or maybe orange juice.
You may also have heard of this one : adding a pound of muscle makes the body burn an additional fifty calories. Not only not true, but incomprehensible. ‘Burns fifty calories’ over how long? Just sitting consumes about 70 calories an hour. The body is consuming energy to maintain internal temperature, correct cells, pump blood, etc.
A pound of new muscle will burn at most 12 calories an hour. Still, adding muscle is a smart idea, since to do so needs high effort – either thru running, weight coaching or other vigorous exercise. Mild exercise, for example walking, is good but tones more than builds muscle. The average man will burn about 350 calories in 60 minutes long workout.
Vigorous workouts also raises the metabolic rate for a day, burning about 250 calories more than if one hadn’t exercised. A brisk walk will do so also, but at a significantly lower level. It’s still a smart idea to workout every other day and walk on the non-workout days. It keeps the muscles toned, stretched helping stop the lactic acid buildup that causes sore muscles.
The actuality is if you’re taking in more calories than your body uses the remaining energy is stored, usually in the shape of chemical bonds in fatty tissues. When the body needs more energy that you have supplied, it’ll turn to those fat stores to get some required energy. That leads to lower fat in the body and weight loss. That fact is best weight loss programs should offer the old school aggregate of proper diet and sufficient regular exercise.

Christmas is coming up and I am once again facing a delima: what to put under the tree for my wife. You see, it isn’t that she is hard to buy for. It isn’t that she is unappreciative of my efforts. She’s always appeared to like my gifts to her. The quandary I am in comes down to “gift stickiness.”
I don’t want to get her something that she will have forgotten about by the new year. I am interested in that perfect gift that will be useful at least until the snow melts and spring appears.
Here are four “sticky” gifts for her to consider this holiday season.
Home Fitness Videos and Equipment
You probably need to be careful with this one as your spouse could take it the wrong way. However, if your wife is anything like mine, she is always working out and staying fit, and giving her some new fitness videos would be a nice way to let her know you appreciate her hard work in staying in shape.
You could also include some of those fitness bands and some ankle weights to add to the overall package. Another fitness invention that has gained a lot of popularity recently are “fitflops.” Fitflops are specially designed footwear that tone the lower leg as you walk. Plus, they are stylish and fashionable in summer and sure to be a hit for years to come.
The Single Cup Coffee Maker
You can’t go wrong with this one because everybody loves coffee these days. Not only is that morning java a staple of the workforce in America, it is also stylish, fashionable and just plain cool to sip on a hot cup of Joe. The single cup coffee maker is ideal because it provides a consistent brew with easy setup and cleanup. You can even find coffee makers that use coffee pods to make the brewing process simpler. A coffee pod is a little invention that is basically coffee grounds wrapped in filter paper and pre-packaged for ease of use. That is a gift that will always be utilized, if not by my-own-self!
Bath and Spa Treatment Accessories
Since the holidays fall during the colder months, you can capitalize on this and reward your sweetheart with a variety of bath gift sets that are sure to help her relax after a cold winter day. Bath salts, bath oils, and just plain bubble bath are surefire winners for any woman during the holidays. Most online stores are well aware of the popularity of bath and spa items for her, and will be posting many varieties of prepackaged sets that will make your shopping experience quicker and easier.
Day Spa Packages
If you want to go a step further, you could spring for a complete day at a local spa. Include a massage, manicure, pedicure and facial just to be thorough. Don’t try to go cheap in this one. Your health insurance isn’t going to cover it!
Be sure to include all the tips and gratuities up front when you purchase the package so she doesn’t have to be concerned with anything other than relaxing and getting away for the day. This gift will go a long way in scoring creativity points for you!
The idea in giving “sticky” gifts is to get her to remember you and your love far past the holiday season. The ideas above should give you a good start in finding that perfect gift that she won’t soon forget.

When one thinks of salt intake, all he or she is reminded of is the pinch of salt, which they add to the food, while cooking. But do you know that three quarters of the salt, that we consume, is already available in the food that we buy.
So the pinch of salt just comes up to a quarter amount of the total percentage of salt we consume. Now here are four reasons for why you should avoid salt.
Too much salt in the body will make the blood pressure rise. People with high blood pressure are capable of getting heart stroke or developing heart disease three times more than the people with normal blood pressure. Try to add less salt while cooking.
Pregnant women should go reduce their salt intake. Now the question arises when they will know how to reduce their intake?!
If your blood pressure shoots up, or if you have developed water retention problem, which is also known as edema in medical terms, or if you have started suffering from any type of kidney problems, then you should automatically reduce the salt intake.
Have you started noticing that you have been suffering from skin puffiness especially at the ankles and even around the eyes?! If yes, then the reason is excess intake of salt. It results in water retention.
Apart from the normal symptom of water retention, which is to start feeling bloated, you will start having that skin puffiness also. The expensive creams available in the market, which promises to reduce the puffiness won’t be of any use. All you have to do is reduce your salt intake, wait and watch.
