A tummy tuck is one of the most popular elective plastic surgery procedures. Tummy tucks firm and tone your mid section. They are a good option if you would like to get rid of excess skin left over after weight loss or pregnancy.
Let’s look at the different types of a tummy tuck, it is also called abdominoplasty
There are two different types of tummy tucks – a full tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck is a more evasive procedure, but it also can handle much more of an area of the mid section.
Procedure of a Full Tummy Tuck
During a full tummy tuck the following steps occur:
- A large incision in made at the pelvic bone from hip to hip.
- Removal of belly button.
- Separating muscle from the skin.
- Excess fat and skin is removed and the muscles are tightened.
- The skin is put back into place and the belly button is put back.
- Lipo suction is done to sculpt the area.
This surgery lasts anywhere from one to five hours, depending on the amount of work to be done. After surgery you will wear a compression garment to help with the pain and aid in healing. You will also have drainage splints put in to drain the excess fluid.
It can take up to one month to recover from a full tummy tuck procedure and it can be a painful recovery. Total recover time can take up to six months.
As mentioned, A full tummy tuck is a major procedure. You should consider it very carefully before choosing a full tummy tuck over a mini tummy tuck.
A mini tummy tuck will be a little different as it is less costly and less work done. Of course, the recovery will be faster too. If you are not completely sure about getting a full tummy tuck then you may wish to discuss this alternative with your surgeon as it may be a better option.
Remember that if you opt for a full tummy tuck, the cost is higher and the recovery period is longer. However, if you need attention to your whole stomach area then it is the only option for that.
